Ⅰ.History

The Nursing School, founded in 1969 by Dalian Medical College which was moved to Zunyi in support of the development of western China, was named the Medical School of the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical College (ZMC). The Nursing Department of ZMC was established in 2001, and was renamed in 2009 the Nursing School of ZMC to further its competence, expand its size, optimize its human resources and promote its discipline construction as well as its teaching and research. The Nursing School has undergone leaping development and trained a great number of nursing professionals over the past 4 decades, with a view to living out its motto “care originates in benevolence and sense originates in love” and its historical mission “nurture angels and care for people’s health”.

Ⅱ. Profile

The faculty of the school comprises 130 full-time and part-time teachers; among them six are master candidate supervisors, 53 are professors, accounting for 43.% of the total, 117 are dual-model teachers, accounting for 90% of the total, 12 hold master’s degrees, accounting for 9.2%, 14 are working on their master’s degrees. The school was awarded Excellent Specialty in 2007 , Provincial Model Specialty in 2008, and National Specialized Specialty in 2010. The school’s application for first-level discipline master programs was approved in 2011, and it was listed to be the key discipline at the school in 2012.

The school consists of a Clinical Nursing Teaching and Research Section, a General Nursing Teaching and Research Section, and a Nursing Laboratory. It’s equipped with advanced classroom and experimental teaching facilities and nursing teaching models. The laboratory has developed into a holistic, digitalized, network-based, multi-purpose and open one. Over 6 million RMB has been pooled for laboratory construction, teaching methodology reform and training teachers. 2.5 million RMB of special fund was granted for building the nursing internship base, creating favorable conditions for improving the school’s nursing teaching and development. The school enjoys over 10 such extramural and intramural internship bases as Affiliated Hospital of ZMC, Sichuan Provincial Hospital, Guizhou Provincial Hospital and Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, providing a sound guarantee for clinic teaching.

Ⅲ. Features

Laying much emphasis on the construction and development of nursing disciplines, the school has improved its level gradually and expanded its enrollment year by year since the establishment of its predecessor, the Nursing Department. Junior college student program was revoked in 2005, now the school mainly trains undergraduates and postgraduates.

The education purpose of the school is to strengthen the students’ humanity quality and practical ability and to cultivate their innovativeness and truth-seeking attitude. Featuring training competent practice-oriented nursing professionals, the school makes Put Students First and Direct toward Social Needs its educational concept, attaching importance to the coordinated development of the students’ general knowledge, practical ability and comprehensive competence.

In order to nurture highly competent nursing professionals keeping abreast of the needs of times and people’s health, the school keeps innovating its didactics and teaching modes. A multitude of teaching modes have been adopted like case teaching, experiential teaching, network teaching, scenario simulation teaching, integrated experimental teaching, visual teaching and public teaching. Meanwhile, virtual laboratory teaching software and internet nursing teaching software are written. Subjects like General Nursing, Nursing Aesthetics, Emergency Nursing and Surgical Nursing are rated Collegiate Quality Course . The school has four research concentrations of Emergency Nursing, Perioperative Nursing, Nursing Education and community nursing.

Statistically, 90% of each year’s graduates from the school can get satisfactory job offers mainly from Guizhou, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shanghai. The school has received favorable feedbacks from the employers.

The school in recent years has made 50-plus national and provincial research programs applications, scored 10-plus research achievements, gained 8 items of Utility Model patent. It was also awarded a Third Prize for Scientific Progress by the Chinese Nursing Association, a Second Prize for Higher Education by Guizhou provincial government. The school edited and co-edited 11 national model textbooks and reference books. The faculty of the school won a prize of “Youth Model” from the Youth League authorities. The school boasts 1 provincial Teaching Elitist, 1 provincial Model Worker, 1 Expert at the City Level.

The school is in friendly cooperation with nursing schools and colleges in Japan, the United States and Australia. All-round cooperation ranges from resource sharing to mutual communication between Sino-foreign teachers and between Sino-foreign students. It has long-term cooperative partnership with the Nursing School of Fudan University, the Nursing School of Beijing University, Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau, in an attempt to press ahead with diversified development.

With the development of economy and society, the medical and health service system is experiencing a profound change, and nursing is facing a historical developmental opportunity. We will continue to improve our faculty, teaching conditions and teaching results, enhance international academic exchanges and cooperation in nursing and enrich research achievements in nursing, so as to make the school a leading one of the kind in Guizhou and a comparatively influential one of the kind in China, and to train more highly competent application-oriented nursing professionals who are “both humanitarians and professionals”.
